about the course
what is the aim of the course?
By practising yoga postures safely to suit your own individual
level, you will have the opportunity to improve flexibility, balance,
breathing, coordination and your ability to relax.
what level is the course?
All Levels - these are mixed ability classes. There is no competition
in yoga and so you will be working at your own level, whether you
are an absolute beginner or a more experienced learner.
what will the course cover?
We will explore a variety of yoga postures safely including
standing, sitting, kneeling, balancing, twisting, forward and backward
bending - variations and modifications will be suggested if necessary.
- You will learn various yoga breathing
techniques
- Develop self awareness by using the breath
with movement to enter and come out of yoga postures
- Release of stress and tension
- Experience various relaxation techniques
- Meditation
- You will have the opportunity to discuss
different elements of yoga philosophy
- Each session will finish with a relaxation
how will I learn?
A variety of approaches will be used, including listening to
the instructions of how and why particular postures are performed
and observing the demonstrations before practising the postures
yourself.
We are all individuals and so you may find that you need a modification
or a variation in order to perform a posture correctly. There will
also be discussions with Serge and other members of the class.
what can I expect to achieve?
As a guide, by the end of the course you should be able to:
- Improve and maintain range of movement,
mobility, flexibility and strength
- Alleviate a wide range of physical ailments:
back pain, etc.
- Reduce stress and stress-related problems
- Facilitate faster recovery from injuries,
surgery, illness, etc.
- Breathe effectively and efficiently

how will I know I'm progressing?
You'll have the opportunity to discuss your progress and achievements
with Serge throughout the course.
The benefits of yoga may be apparent immediately. After only a few
classes, increased flexibility, fewer aches and pains as well as
better sleeping patterns may be observed.
what will I need for the first session?
- Loose comfortable clothing
- A non-slip mat to lie on
- Blanket for relaxation
- For safety reasons the minimum amount
of jewellery should be worn.
will I have a chance to give my views
on the course?
Discussion and questions are an on-going process within each class
and you can always approach Serge at any time for further advice
or clarification. Views and comments are always welcomed and greatly
appreciated.
